The reduced site works associated with our twin wall and solid slab products was highly beneficial given the confined nature of this tight corner site.

All of the products were delivered on a just in time basis. The precast elements were lifted into their final position directly from the delivery trailer. This minimised the space requirements for onsite material storage, which was at a premium on this project.

A precast crosswall solution was provided, using our twinwall and lattice floor products. The repetitive nature of the accommodation levels was ideally suited to precast concrete. Bespoke beams and columns were provided as required in other areas of the hotel.

The reduction in onsite works associated with precast concrete construction was of high value on this busy city centre site. Our logistics team operated a just in time delivery programme to ensure the precast panels could be lifted directly into position, eliminating the need for onsite product storage.

Key facts:

  • 10,000m2 of twinwall

  • 16,000 m2 of lattice floors

  • Over 2,500 unique production drawings

  • Concrete Society Sustainability Award Nominee

The hotel development incorporates the old General Lying-In Hospital, which is a listed building

Oran Pre-Cast provided a full design and build solution for this mixed use development. The precast products used in the various parts of the structure varied depending on the proposed end use.

The long clear spans in the underground car park and function room were achieved through the use of prestressed hollowcore flooring. Twinwall was used to provide a crosswall solution at the upper bedroom levels. Precast retaining walls were provided to the carpark perimeter.

Points of interest:

  • Cranked beams to feature stairs

  • 500mm hollowcore for spans of up to 16m

  • Bespoke 5 sided columns

  • Exposed concrete finish

  • 20kN/m2 imposed load to ground floor slab

As per most mixed use projects, the changing end uses at the various levels require different structural layouts. This often results in complex transfer structures and bespoke connection details. To aid with the design the project was modelled and detailed using the 3d BIM software, Tekla Structures.
