This project consisted of a fully precast 2 storey concrete frame solution. The beam and column frame was designed to cater for a future 2 storey vertical extension.

There were a number of complex features involved in this project, from both design and manufacture viewpoints.

These included:

  • A perimeter cantilevered wing beam profile

  • Support beams and flooring to the curved inclined ramps

  • Double spanning quarter circle partially cantilevered beams with a sloping boot and

  • A discreet corbel support detail

Our in house design team used the finite element package, SCIA Engineer, for stability and curved beam analysis. The TEKLA drawing package was used to model the curved ramps in 3D.

The core walls were formed using twinwall. The use of 400mm deep prestressed hollowcore allowed for a clearance of approximately 15m between columns.

The structure was designed in accordance with the Eurocodes.

PRECAST VALUE €2.5m

A wide range of precast products were used to form this multi-storey car park. These included rectangular perimeter beams, boot beams and bespoke half-filled composite beams. The stair cores and crash barriers were provided in twinwall. Solid wall panels were utilised in the ramp walls.

Key facts:

  • 8 level multi-storey car park, including a double height basement,

  • Maximum bay dimension of 15.6m.

  • 150mm, 250mm and 400mm hollowcore.

While the building perimeter stepped back at the upper levels, most of the internal floor layouts were identical at each level. This facilitated a large number of repetitive precast elements. This minimised the number of moulds required, resulting in a cost effective precast solution for the client.

The structure has a footprint of approximately 90m by 25m and can cater for over 100 cars. To blend in with the site topography the carpark has a split level arrangement.

Partially retaining 250mm twinwall elements were provided between ground and intermediate ground level. The ramps between levels were provided using a combination of twinwall and lattice floor. This allowed for the provision of a transition gradient at both top and bottom of the ramp. Elsewhere 250mm hollowcore was used to provide the required clear floor span.

Key design features included:

  • Bespoke beam profiles

  • Lattice floor ramps to split level layout

  • 7.5m x 12m bay size.

A number of bespoke beam types were supplied for the project. The largest of these were 1.7m high elements that acted as crash barriers, in addition to supporting the floor.

ONSITE DURATION 8 weeks

A wide range of precast products were used to form this multi-storey car park. These included rectangular perimeter beams, boot beams and bespoke half-filled composite beams. The stair cores and crash barriers were provided in twinwall.

Key facts:

  • 4 level multi-storey car park

  • 16m x 7.5m bay pattern

  • 200mm and 400mm hollowcore

The rectangular structure plan, coupled with a regular grid layout, allowed for a large number of repetitive precast elements. This minimised the number of moulds required, resulting in a cost effective precast solution for the client.
