Oran Pre-Cast started work on the 8th of September on Phase One of the new Research Greenway Hub – this is the first new DIT building to be constructed at the Grangegorman Site which is one of the largest current public infrastructure projects underway in the country. It will be home to the Environmental Health Services Institute and is based on collaboration between DIT, DCC and the HSE.

It is envisaged that the contract will take 18 months to complete (“BAM Building” are the main contractor), with a tight 12 week pre-cast programme included within this. The project will utilise most of the Oran Pre-Cast suite of products – twin-wall, lattice slab flooring, stairs, columns and beams. Oran Pre-Cast were responsible for the modelling and design of the pre-cast frame using finite element analysis software. This project is BIM compliant.

A notable feature of the project is the 900mm deep cantilever transfer slab at first floor, which comprises 65mm deep pre-cast lattice slab with an 835mm deep insitu topping. 650 and 450mm diameter circular precast columns were also produced in-house for this project.

A detailed “Dynamics” analysis of the building was undertaken in order to ensure that the vibration performance of the structure will comply with set limits.
